The candidate will conduct research on light emitting diodes (LEDs) for display modules at our research location at Cork (Ireland). The main focus of this role is to investigate new designs & process flow for small and efficient LEDs. The position is particularly suited for a researcher who wishes to further develop their scientific career in a vibrant, multidisciplinary and fast-moving research environment. The postdoctoral position is a fixed term contract for 24 months and requires a PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or similar areas, with a strong background in III-V compound LED device processing.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with other researchers and engineers to develop concepts that advance the entire LED performance (wafer/epitaxial, device design, fabrication process, testing) for III-V compounds visible LEDs
Fabrication of semiconductor-based devices in a clean room environment, including process development & optimization
Characterization and data analysis of visible LED devices using technique such as SEM, AFM, CL and LIV measurements
Promote and support innovation to facilitate IP generation publish and present papers in international conferences and journals as appropriate

Minimum Qualification

PhD and/or postdoctoral assignment in the field of Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or similar
Graduating with a PhD by mid-2017, or completing a postdoctoral assignment in the field of III-V compound visible LEDs
2+ years hands-on experience in fabrication and characterization of GaN-based and/or GaAs based LEDs
Understanding of LED physics
Expertise in III-V compound materials & devices characterization
Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration Able to obtain work authorization in Ireland for a two-year period beginning in 2017

Preferred Qualification

Experience in material behavior in micro/nano scale
Experience within Electronic Material Reliability
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications at leading Material Science, Physics or Microsystem Technology workshops or conferences
Demonstrated experience via an internship, work experience, or widely used contributions to open source projects
