Cyanide Studio and Focus Home Interactive unveil Call of Cthulhu with first information and images

H. P. Lovecraft's famously twisted universe will be coming alive on consoles and PC in 2017, in the official video game adaptation of Chaosium's pen & paper RPG Call of Cthulhu. The Cthulhu Mythos has grown to become one of the largest shared universes ever envisioned, giving birth to countless stories, novels, and even movies ever since the original publication of Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu. Today, discover the game's first screenshots, which showcase the dark, oppressive ambiance of the game's semi-open environments built in Unreal Engine 4.

Developed by seasoned studio Cyanide, Call of Cthulhu is an RPG-Investigation game with psychological horror and stealth mechanics, set in a deeply immersive world. On a mission to find the truth behind the death of an acclaimed artist and her family on a backwater island, the player will soon uncover a more disturbing truth as the Great Dreamer, Cthulhu, prepares its awakening...

Ambiebtazioni Lovercraftiane in senso stretto non mi risulta, ma un gioco liberamente ispirato al mito e all'universo di Lovercraft, sia per ambientazioni che per il lore, è Bloodborne


E proprio parlando di Blloodborne e della sua ispirazione da Lovercraft, mi è recentemente nata la curiosità di leggere qualcuna delle sue opere, almeno quelle più famose...e adesso anche questo gioco...sarà destino forse

Bè Bloodborne ne è intriso fino alla punta dei capelli...

Penso al livello del villaggio in The Evil Within che è praticamente un rip-off di Innsmouth. Non direttamente ispirato ma dai forti echi lovecraftiani (anche se in chiave sci-fi) è sicuramente Soma dei Frictional. In futuro sarà da tenere d'occhio What Remains of Edith Finch di Giant Sparrow ma sono molti i giochi che attingono a quella mitologia per definire la propria (come The Witcher; il terzo è colmo di citazioni e rimandi ma nel primo c'era perfino una missione in cui bisognava affrontare Dagon..).

Vero ricordo dagon nel primo witcher, con quella scala impercorribile che si perdeva nelle profondità del mare/lago/quel che era.

In Call of Cthulhu, players will control Edward Pierce, a former veteran and private investigator in 1920s Boston. Pierce will be investigating the tragic and mysterious death of Sarah Hawkins and her family in Darkwater Island. The game’s E3 Trailer showcases this disturbing Island and the eerie Hawkins Family Mansion, and gives a glimpse at how the intensity of the investigation will slowly start chipping away at your Sanity.

Insanity and the Cthulhu Mythos have long been entwined – as your investigation brings you closer to Cthulhu’s sphere of influence, madness will progressively engulf your senses, leaving you to increasingly question what is real and what is illusory. Si tutto bello, peccato che poi... vabbè non voglio essere pessimista ma sono molti anni che spero in un gioco che catturi l'essenza delle atmosfere lovecraftiane, forse chi ci è riuscito meglio è stato proprio bloodborne. Eccezione meritevole Dark corner of the earth, cagate immonde i vari prisoner of ice e shadow of the comet (ma quest'ultimo posso capirlo).
Spero che questo sia meglio di un Alan wake qualsiasi
