Just for what it’s worth, a prized war trophy for German soldiers of any sort was an American Ronson cigarette lighter. When I was first stationed in Germany during the 80’s, when I was looking for an apartment to put my family in, I happened to speak to an older German man who asked if the Zippo lighter I lit his cigarette with was issued or purchased. (purchased) When I asked him why, I learned the preceding, and that he had been a Tiger commander. As an Abrams tanker, I was of course interested. I also learned that the Tiger crews referred to the Shermans as ‘Ronsons’, because like the ads for the lighters, they would “light first time every time.”
