"Why 1984? What happened?"

"It's not a reference to the actual year, but rather to a novel by George Orwell that goes by that title. While it is set in a fictional dystopic 1984, it was written way before that year, I think in the late '40s"

"So how did he know?"

"Know what?"

"What would happen in 1984"

"It's a novel. Fiction. It was written 40 years plus before the date."

"Wait. No, seriously wait. Do you mean they did sci-fi back then? I thought it was invented like in the 70s with Star Trek but no one cared until Star Wars."

"If you had read the novel, you'd understand that this whole convo is from the dystopia of 1984"
