Today, we’re improving the most important experiences on the watch with Android Wear 2.0. You’ll get more personalized and helpful information, new ways to use apps, better ways to work out, more ways to message, plus the Google Assistant right on your wrist. We will be rolling out the new Android Wear 2.0 update, which will include the following features:
More personalized, helpful information: You can now personalize your Android Wear always-on watch face with information from your favorite apps. Simply glance at your wrist to check what’s important to you. In addition, a quick tap on the watch face can start your favorite apps: you can instantly order an Uber ride, start a workout, or get in touch with your significant other.
New ways to use apps: With Android Wear 2.0, apps can run independently on your watch. You’ll have more control over which apps you want on your watch vs. your phone, and can even directly download apps right from the new on-watch Google Play Store. Whether you use an Android phone or iPhone, you’ll be able to use apps built for Android Wear 2.0 like: Accuweather, Android Pay*, Bring!, Foursquare, Google Fit, Google Messenger, Google Play Music, Lifesum, Robin Hood, Runkeeper, Runtastic, Strava, Telegram, Uber and many more. If your Android Wear watch has cellular connectivity, you can leave your phone behind and still use your favorite standalone apps from your watch.
Better ways to work out: Google Fit, the pre-installed standalone fitness app on Android Wear watches, now lets you track your pace, distance, calories burned, and heart rate when you’re walking, running, or cycling. Google Fit also includes strength training challenges such as sit-ups, push-ups, squats, and weightlifting.
More ways to respond to messages: Your Android Wear watch already saves you time by letting you read messages that you are receiving. Now it’s easier than ever to read and respond to a message right from your watch. When you receive a message, you can instantly expand the notification and tap to respond. In addition to speaking your answer or drawing an emoji, you can now handwrite or swipe on a keyboard to respond. Need to respond quickly and discreetly? Try out Smart Reply, which instantly and intelligently suggests different responses based on the actual message you receive. Try it out on apps like Facebook Messenger, Glide, Google Messenger, Hangouts, Telegram or WhatsApp.
The Google Assistant on your wrist: Android Wear 2.0 brings the Google Assistant to your wrist, so you can find answers and get things done—hands free. To ask for help, just hold down the power button on your watch or say “Ok Google". The Google Assistant is available in English and German on Android Wear and will available in other languages in the coming months.
We’re also delighted to introduce two new watches that will be the first one featuring Android Wear 2.0, the LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport, designed in collaboration with Google. The LG Watch Sports will be LTE enabled, have NFC for payments, GPS for tracking exercise and navigation, a heart rate sensor for your workouts, and cellular connectivity. With dedicated buttons that launch Google Fit and Android Pay, plus a rotating power button, it lets you instantly launch your favorite apps.
LG Watch Style will be compatible with MODE leather and silicone bands right out of the box, so you can snap-and-swap bands to match your look or the occasion.
They will ship with the latest version of Android Wear. You can use them with an Android phone or iPhone and make sure that you are using latest Android Wear app update from Google Play Store or App Store.
You will be able to find LG Watch Style at Best Buy & Google Store and the LG Watch Sport at AT&T & Google Store (without a SIM) in the US. These watches will be available at carriers and retailers across Canada, Korea, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, UAE, and UK in the coming weeks.
These platform updates will be coming to all supported Android Wear watches in the coming weeks except the following ones: LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live, Moto 360 v1 (2014), Sony Smartwatch 3 and Asus ZenWatch v1.
In preparation to receive this update on your watch, please make sure you have the latest version of the Android Wear app on your phone, by opening the Play Store, searching for “Android Wear”, and opening the app’s Play Store page. If an [Update] button is visible, make sure to update the app. For iOS, you will also need to download Android Wear app here.
To successfully receive the update on your watch, please make sure your watch is on its charger overnight and connected to your nearby phone by either bluetooth or Wi-Fi (Android phones only).
