On 2/13/2018 at 1855 hours, the UC San Diego Police Department received a report of a burglary that occurred at the Leichtag building at 1854 hours. The witness stated that as he left the building, the male waiting outside entered through the same door. The witness said the male matched the description his supervisor gave of someone who may have recently stolen her laptop from her office in Leichtag. The witness went back into the building and found the male trying to stuff a laptop into a white backpack.
The witness confronted the male. The male claimed he was borrowing the laptop from a friend. The male then took the laptop out of his backpack and placed the laptop on a nearby counter. At that moment, the owner of the laptop walked up and stated that his laptop had just been stolen. The owner then identified the laptop the suspect had taken as his stolen laptop. The witness called UCSD Police to report the crime as the suspect fled out of the building and north across Gilman Drive.
The suspect is described as African American male in his early 20’s, about 5’6” tall, thin build, short black hair, wearing all black clothing with red and white Nike Air Jordan shoes and a pierced right cheek with a silver stud, carrying a white backpack.
The suspect has not been apprehended and the investigation is on-going.
