http://www.kotaku.co.uk/2017/01/16/n...t-be-brilliantRight out of the gate I wanted to address a few concerns people had with the shifted focus of the two demos. There were folks who thought that the second demo had re-focused Nioh into an easier action game, but Yasuda says that's not the case, and they're committed to keeping things challenging. When asked about this disparity, Yasuda told me, "We believe 'streamlined' is the better expression. We are aware of such voices claiming that by improving controls and camera, the beta felt 'easy' to veterans from alpha demo, so that is why we incorporated 'twilight' missions in both beta and the final product. Nioh is meant to be a masocore game so during development, we consciously avoided making the game easy.”
http://www.trustedreviews.com/nioh-reviewOne of the most striking aspects of Nioh’s release schedule and demos was how much changed following audience feedback and, though it’s hard to be specific about the minutiae, this build again felt like it had been tuned - a little bit smoother, a few new elements in familiar levels, and with a tiny difference to the katana’s parry windows. At one point I loaded the ‘wrong’ level, and found a familiar environment devastated and filled with new, demonic enemies - a clue as to where the endgame is going, and replayability will lie.
There were other elements, too, hinting towards what will keep people playing - which was always the problem for Ninja Gaiden, in that just playing the campaign again and again eventually becomes dull. The little frog-spirit-god things, Kodama, can be found around the levels - sending them back to the shrines (save points) allows you to receive certain blessings, which offer buffs to various drop rates (armour, weapons, the currency of amrita). This matters because Nioh is a loot-focused game, with some items set and some randomised, and the intention is to make players change their fighting styles according to the gear that drops.
Nioh feels like a genuine step forward for Team Ninja - and in a way, the game that Ninja Gaiden 3 should have been. The combat really hits the heights once you get an idea of what’s going on, and the menagerie of beasties here showcases a wonderfully macabre imagination. Don’t take the Souls comparisons too literally. Nioh does what every game should do, which is look at Fromsoft’s brilliant works, take inspiration from them, and build something new. There may be a lot going on here, but this is fundamentally classic Team Ninja - which is to say, it’s a game all about kicking arse, and loving it.
The more I played Nioh, the more it sank its teeth into me. This isn’t a lesser alternative to Dark Souls, nor is it trying too hard to be Dark Souls. There are clear inspirations which have been taken from FromSoftware’s iconic franchise, but functionally the gameplay is much faster, with so many different combat mechanics in play at any one time.
The best way to describe the difference between the two is like the difference between PES and FIFA: both are playing the same sport, but bringing a different philosophy to it.
As I was playing as a level-100 character, I wasn’t able to learn about the levelling system or enemy scaling, but the Yokai and ninja on offer put up incredible fights even still.
If you’re a fan of Dark Souls, Nioh will absolutely hook you. If you’re not a fan of brutally difficult games, Team Ninja won’t show you any sympathy.
maggiori info sul Season Pass:
The Season Pass includes three new downloadable story chapters – each with new enemies and quests – which you can access as soon as they’re available.
Featuring:
Dragon of the North – Venture deep into Japan’s embattled Northern provinces
Defiant Honor – Fight in the bloody Winter Campaign of the Siege of Osaka
Bloodshed’s End – Bring the Siege of Osaka to an end during the Summer Campaign
