il debunking è strano, francamente: prende una sola fonte, il comunicato di Barringer (il prof che avrebbe cancellato il corso); ammette che il corso verrà cancellato (poi però conclude con “nessuna cancellazione, quindi”); dice che i corsi verranno sostituiti ma non dice con quali (“si continueranno a studiare i capolavori europei e americani”: meno male, ma come? Già nel corso attuale, l’ultimo, cito Barringer, “The class will also consider art in relation to questions of gender, class and ‘race’ and discuss its involvement with Western capitalism. Its relationship with climate change will be a key theme,“, e “Barringer has also focused attention on the course’s written assignments. He said that he will invite students to write an essay nominating a work of art that has been left out of the course’s curriculum or its textbook. Like the changes to the course itself, this essay is designed to challenge long-held views of art history.“); non cita alcuno dei virgolettati che avrebbero diffuso allarmismi e tendenziosità (tipo Barringer stesso: “Rather, when there are so many other regions, genres and traditions — all “equally deserving of study” — putting European art on a pedestal is “problematic,” he said”.
Il punto è: viene cancellato? Sembra di sì. Viene cancellato perché è eurocentrico e centrato sul maschio bianco e straight? Sembra di sì. Ci sarà, tra i quattro corsi introduttivi sostitutivi, un corso dedicato all’arte occidentale dal ‘300 a oggi? Boh. A me sti debunking più biased dei pezzi che dovrebbero debunkare sembrano un po’ buffi.
